February 2008 - Denaby Main - Job Vacancies Kiosk launched
Denaby Main is a small town in the greater Doncaster area in South Yorkshire. It has historical employment issues due to its past role as a mining community. To enable the people to have the same opportunities to find work, a PDWeb kiosk has been installed with direct live links to all the Doncaster and South Yorkshire area vacancies.

It’s a two bus ride journey to go to the nearest Job Centre and it takes over an hour. The kiosk saves on journey time and bus fares and gives the people of Denaby Main a level playing field when it comes to job hunting.

The Job Vacancies kiosk application can operate on our own kiosks or on third party systems.

This application and its use shows that digital services of this type can be a real benefit to isolated and deprived areas.

March 2006 - The Aberdeen Umbrella Kiosk Network installed

The Scottish Executive awarded funding to the city of Aberdeen to install an outdoor public access kiosk system in early 2006.

The Aberdeen Council project team visited all the kiosk providers in the UK, then narrowed the list to several finalists.

Public DataWeb was chosen because of its practical and long term experience of operating a citywide service in Sheffield that has provided far more than simply a kiosk network, going further into usability issues, and having multiple operations and service provision, including tailored Wi-Fi systems for mobile users.

The final clincher in obtaining the contract was Public DataWeb's registered design for a stunning second generation outdoor kiosk - The Umbrella Kiosk.

The contract was awarded in January 2006 and was completed by May - certainly a record achievement - from a drawing board design to a fully operational architectural example of 21'st century street furniture.

The system provides a range of council and other agency services and it includes video and photo email and secure public Internet access.
